Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Russian eVisa at the official eVisa portal. Processing usually takes up to 4 calendar days. Print the eVisa approval and carry it with your passport — border officers will scan the QR code on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Vietnamese passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Russia. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Russian law, but some airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Recommended
Immigration officers at Russian airports may ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready — airlines also check this before boarding.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Carry a hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from your host. Russian border officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you're staying at a private address.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Have evidence of sufficient funds for your stay — bank statements or a credit card with a reasonable limit. Officers rarely check this, but it's better to have it on hand.Recommended
eVisa is single entry only
Once you leave Russia, the eVisa is used up. You cannot re-enter on the same eVisa. Plan your trip so you don't need to exit and come back.
Registration is automatic at hotels
If you're staying in a hotel, they handle the registration for you. Just confirm at check-in that they've done it. For private apartments, the host must register you within 7 days.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Russian eVisa website (evisa.kdmid.ru). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 4 calendar days.
2
Receive your eVisa approval
You'll get an email with a PDF of your eVisa. Print it out and save a copy on your phone. The eVisa is valid for 60 days from issue, but you can only stay up to 16 days per entry.
3
Arrive at a Russian airport
At passport control, hand over your passport and the printed eVisa. The officer will check your details and stamp you in. Be ready to show your return ticket and accommodation booking if asked.
4
Register your stay
Within 7 days of arrival, your hotel or host must register you with the local migration office. If you're in a private apartment, the host handles this. You don't need to do anything yourself, but confirm it's done.
