Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
South Sudan eVisa
Apply for a South Sudan eVisa before you travel. The official portal is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. Processing takes a few business days, and you'll receive an approval letter to present at the border.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay
Your passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. South Sudan does not enforce a strict 6-month validity rule, but your passport must be valid for the duration of your trip. Airlines may still ask for 6 months — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Juba International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a clear digital version on your phone ready to show.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in South Sudan. Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Have at least $200 USD in cash or a recent bank statement showing sufficient funds for your stay. ATMs are scarce in South Sudan, so bring enough USD to cover your trip.Recommended
eVisa required — no visa on arrival
Vietnamese passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in South Sudan. You must have an approved eVisa before you travel. Apply online at least a week in advance.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter South Sudan, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official South Sudan eVisa website. Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel dates. Upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $100 USD) with a credit card. Processing takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get an email with your eVisa PDF. Print at least two copies — one to present at check-in and one for immigration on arrival.
3
Arrive at Juba International Airport
At Juba airport, go to the immigration counter. Hand over your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp your passport. The process usually takes 10–15 minutes if your documents are in order.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. There are no customs checks for personal items, but be prepared for random bag inspections.
