Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official portal before departure. The eVisa is valid for tourism, business, or transit. Processing takes 2–5 business days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your entry date into Uganda. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Without one, you may be refused entry or forced to buy a ticket at the airport.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Have a printed hotel reservation or a letter from your host ready. Officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Carry a recent bank statement or enough cash (USD or UGX) to cover your stay. Immigration may ask how you'll support yourself, especially for longer visits.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) at immigration. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport (and pay a fee). Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.
Keep your eVisa approval printed
Print the eVisa approval letter and keep it with your passport. You'll need it at check-in and at immigration in Entebbe. A digital copy on your phone is a good backup, but the printed version is preferred.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Uganda eVisa portal (visas.immigration.go.ug). Fill in your personal details, passport info, travel dates, and upload a passport-style photo and your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $50 USD for a single-entry tourist visa) by credit card. Processing takes 2–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get an email with a PDF approval letter. Print it out — you'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival. Also save a copy on your phone as backup.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' / 'Immigration'. Join the queue for eVisa holders (usually faster than the visa-on-arrival line). Hand over your passport, printed eVisa approval, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. Typical wait: 15–30 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. Then proceed to customs — green channel if nothing to declare, red channel if you have goods over $500 or restricted items. Exit into the arrivals hall.
