Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in the Dominican Republic. Airlines at OR Tambo check this before you board — if your passport expires before you leave, you won't fly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Dominican Republic
Immigration officers at Punta Cana and Santo Domingo routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or the booking confirmation on your phone — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a return ticket. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their address covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Immigration can ask for evidence of sufficient funds — a credit card or bank statement showing a few hundred dollars usually satisfies them. No fixed minimum amount is published.Recommended
Overstay fines add up fast
If you stay beyond your 30-day limit without an extension, you'll be fined roughly 1,000 DOP per month of overstay. Pay before you leave at the immigration office — they won't let you board your flight otherwise.
E-Ticket may be required
Some airlines ask for an electronic entry form (E-Ticket) before boarding. Check with your airline 48 hours before departure. It's free and takes 5 minutes online.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport in the Dominican Republic
You'll go through immigration at Punta Cana (PUJ), Santo Domingo (SDQ), or Puerto Plata (POP). Join the 'Foreigners' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will stamp your passport for up to 30 days.
2
Complete the E-Ticket form (if required)
Some airlines or airports may ask for an electronic entry form. Check with your airline before departure. If required, fill it out online — it's free and takes 5 minutes.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel. Customs is usually a green/red channel — if you have nothing to declare, go through the green channel.
