Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
You need an eVisa to enter the UAE. Apply through the ICA Smart Services portal at least a few days before your flight. The process is straightforward — upload a passport photo, pay the fee, and you'll receive the visa by email.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months
Your Zambian passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry into the UAE. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready. Without it, you may be refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in the UAE. Immigration may ask where you're staying, and having a booking ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement or enough cash to cover your stay. While not always checked, officers can ask for proof you can support yourself during your visit.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
Zambian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in the UAE. You must apply and receive approval before you fly. Airlines may deny boarding if you don't have a valid visa.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in the UAE, not from your departure date. Double-check before applying.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to smartservices.ica.gov.ae and fill out the eVisa application. Upload a scanned copy of your passport bio page and a passport-sized photo. Pay the fee (around AED 350–400) and wait for approval — typically 3–5 business days.
2
Print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll receive a PDF. Print two copies — one to carry with your passport, one as backup. Also save a digital copy on your phone.
3
Arrive at a UAE airport
At Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Sharjah airport, proceed to the immigration hall. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket ready. The officer will scan your passport and stamp you in.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, head to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're free to enter the UAE.
