Have bank statements or cash showing at least €100 per day of your stay. Officers at Madrid and Barcelona airports check this more often than at smaller entry points.Recommended

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: passport, photos, application form, flight itinerary, hotel bookings, travel insurance, and bank statements. Make photocopies of everything.
2
Book an appointment at the Spanish embassy in Lusaka
Contact the Embassy of Spain in Lusaka (via email at [email protected] or call +260 211 254 800) to schedule a visa appointment. Appointments are not online — you must call or email. Expect a wait of 1–2 weeks for an available slot.
3
Attend the visa interview
Go to the embassy at the appointed time. Bring all original documents plus photocopies. You'll submit your application, pay the fee (around €80, payable in Zambian kwacha at the embassy's rate), and possibly answer a few questions about your trip.
4
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days, but can stretch to 30 days during peak season (summer). You'll be told when to collect your passport — usually by returning to the embassy in person.
5
Collect your passport and check the visa
Once approved, your passport will have a visa sticker. Check the dates, number of entries, and validity period. If anything is wrong, tell the embassy immediately.
6
Travel and enter Spain
At Spanish border control, present your passport with the visa, return ticket, and proof of accommodation. The officer may ask about your plans — answer clearly. You'll get an entry stamp.
