Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Gambia. Immigration officers at Banjul Airport check this at the counter — they don't enforce a 6-month rule, but your passport must not expire before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Gambia
Immigration at Banjul International Airport asks for a return or onward ticket before they stamp you in. Airlines also check this at check-in — have a printed copy or a clear digital version on your phone.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration officers sometimes ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation email or a letter from your host with their address and phone number works. Have it ready in your carry-on.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. A bank statement or a credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies the officer. No fixed amount is published, but having $200–$300 in cash or on card is safe.Recommended
Visa-free for 90 days
Zambian passport holders can stay in Gambia for up to 90 days without a visa. No application needed — just show your passport at the border.
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Gambia. If it's close to expiry, renew it before you go.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Banjul International Airport
You'll land at Banjul International Airport (BJL). Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. There's usually one main queue for all foreigners.
2
Present your passport and ticket
Hand over your passport and (if asked) your return/onward ticket. The officer will check your passport validity and stamp you in. No visa is needed.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim. Then proceed through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're free to go.
