Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Libya requires a visa for Zambian passport holders. Apply through the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal at mfa.gov.ly. Processing times vary — start at least 2 weeks before your trip. Approval is not guaranteed and you may need to visit a Libyan embassy for biometrics.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Libya. No minimum validity beyond departure is officially required, but airlines may enforce 6 months validity — check with your carrier before booking.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Libyan immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed copy or digital booking ready. Airlines at check-in in Zambia will also verify this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host letter
Immigration may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel reservation confirmation or a letter from your host in Libya ready. This is not always checked, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry evidence of sufficient funds for your stay — bank statements or cash. There's no fixed minimum amount, but having around $500 USD equivalent in cash or on a card is a safe bet.Recommended
Security situation in Libya
Libya is currently under a 'do not travel' advisory from many governments due to armed conflict, terrorism, and kidnapping risks. If you decide to go, register with your embassy, have a reliable local contact, and avoid non-essential movement.
eVisa application link
The official Libyan eVisa portal is not always accessible. If the site is down, use a reputable visa agency that handles Libyan visas. Do not pay third parties without verifying their legitimacy.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Libyan eVisa website (if available) or use a trusted visa service. Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a copy of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (typically around $50–$100 depending on processing time). Processing usually takes 3–7 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get an email with your eVisa document. Print a copy and also save a PDF on your phone. You'll need to show it at airline check-in and at Libyan immigration.
3
Prepare your supporting documents
Before you travel, gather: your passport (valid 6+ months), the printed eVisa, your return ticket, and your first night hotel booking confirmation. Keep them all together in a folder or digital wallet.
4
Arrive at the airport in Libya
At Tripoli Mitiga Airport or Benghazi Airport, go to the immigration hall. Join the queue for foreign passport holders. Hand over your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket. The officer will stamp your passport and let you through. Expect a brief interview — they may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying.
