Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your stay in Uganda
Your passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Uganda does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date — just enough to cover your stay. Airlines sometimes enforce 6 months anyway, so check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration officers at Entebbe Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. Overland exits are less strict, but air travel always gets checked.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel. A printed reservation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. A bank statement, credit card, or cash equivalent to roughly $200–$300 USD for a short trip usually satisfies the officer.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
Uganda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travelers aged 1 year and above. Without the yellow card, you may be vaccinated on arrival (at your expense) or denied entry. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.
No visa fee — but carry cash for other expenses
Entry is free, but you'll need cash for transport, food, and accommodation. ATMs are available in Kampala and Entebbe, but carry some US dollars or local currency (Ugandan shillings) for taxis and small purchases.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport (or land border)
Most travelers fly into Entebbe (EBB). You can also enter via land borders like Busia or Malaba from Kenya, or Katuna from Rwanda. At the airport, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'.
2
Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand over your passport (with at least 6 months validity and 1 blank page). The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation details. Answer clearly and politely.
3
Receive entry stamp and proceed
The officer will stamp your passport with a 'Visa Free' entry valid for up to 90 days. No fee is charged. Collect your passport and proceed to baggage claim. The whole process usually takes 10–20 minutes.
