Zimbabwean passport holders need a visa to enter Brazil. Apply for a tourist visa (VITUR) at a Brazilian embassy or consulate before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival option. Processing takes 2–4 weeks, and you must submit your application in person or via a visa application centre.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a visa before travel
Zimbabwe passport holders need a visa to enter Brazil. Apply at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs eVisa portal — the process is entirely online. Processing takes 5–10 business days, and you'll receive a PDF visa by email.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Brazil requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Brazil
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you'll leave Brazil within your visa's validity. Have a printed or digital copy ready — airlines also check this before issuing a boarding pass.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel reservation or a signed letter from your host in Brazil ready. Immigration rarely asks for it, but if they do, you need to show where you're staying for the first few nights.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have at least R$ 200 (about $40 USD) per day of your stay. Immigration officers rarely check this for visa holders, but it's better to have it.Recommended
Visa required — no exceptions
Zimbabwean passport holders cannot enter Brazil without a pre-approved visa. There is no visa-on-arrival, no e-visa, and no visa waiver. Apply well in advance — processing can take 4 weeks or longer.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Brazil, not from the day you apply. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before starting the visa process.

What happens at the border

Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: valid passport, completed visa application form, passport photo, proof of accommodation, return ticket, and bank statements. Make photocopies of everything.
2
Submit your visa application
Submit your application online at the Brazilian e-Visa portal (https://www.gov.br/mre/en/assuntos/portal-consular/visas/visa-application-e-visa). Then book an appointment at the Brazilian embassy in Harare or the nearest visa application centre. Bring all original documents plus photocopies.
3

Pay the non-refundable visa fee (approximately USD 80–100, depending on exchange rates). Payment is usually by bank transfer or at the embassy. Keep the receipt.
4

Processing takes 2–4 weeks. You may be called for an interview. Track your application online using the reference number from your submission.
5
Collect your passport with visa
Once approved, collect your passport from the embassy or visa centre. Check the visa sticker: your name, passport number, validity dates, and number of entries must be correct.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Zimbabwean passport holders must get a tourist visa (VITUR) before travelling to Brazil. There is no visa-on-arrival or visa waiver for ZW passport holders. Apply at the Brazilian embassy in Harare or the nearest visa application centre.
Processing typically takes 2–4 weeks from the date you submit your application and documents. During peak seasons (June–August, December–January) it can take longer. Apply at least 6 weeks before your planned departure.
The visa fee is approximately USD 80–100, depending on the current exchange rate. This fee is non-refundable, even if your application is rejected. Payment is usually by bank transfer or at the embassy.
Yes, you can apply for a one-time extension of up to 90 additional days at the Federal Police office in Brazil. You must apply before your initial 90-day stay expires. The extension fee is around BRL 110 (about USD 20). You'll need to show proof of funds and a return ticket.
Overstaying results in a fine of BRL 100 per day (up to a maximum of BRL 10,000). You'll also be barred from re-entering Brazil for a period equal to the overstay duration. Pay the fine at the Federal Police before leaving.
Brazil does not require a yellow fever vaccine for entry, but it is strongly recommended if you plan to visit rural areas, the Amazon, or national parks. Some neighbouring countries may require it if you travel overland. Check with your doctor 4–6 weeks before travel.
You start the application online at the Brazilian e-Visa portal (https://www.gov.br/mre/en/assuntos/portal-consular/visas/visa-application-e-visa), but you must still submit your documents in person at the embassy or visa application centre. The entire process is not fully online for Zimbabwean passport holders.
