Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Vietnam eVisa at evisa.xuatnhhapcanh.gov.vn. The fee is $25 USD for single entry or $50 USD for multiple entry, valid for up to 90 days. Processing takes 3 working days — do not book flights until you receive the approval letter.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Zimbabwe passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or ticket to a third country ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Vietnam. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, not having it can delay entry or trigger a secondary inspection.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement or at least $500 USD in cash available. Immigration may ask to see proof you can support yourself during your stay — especially if you arrive without a return ticket.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Vietnam. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.
eVisa is single entry only
The eVisa allows one entry. If you leave Vietnam (even for a day trip), you'll need a new eVisa to re-enter.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnam eVisa website (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, passport info, and upload a passport photo and a scanned copy of your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $25 USD) with a credit or debit card. Processing takes 3-5 business days.
2
Receive and print eVisa approval letter
Once approved, you'll get an email with your eVisa approval letter. Print it out — you'll need to show it at check-in and upon arrival in Vietnam. Save a digital copy on your phone as backup.
3
Arrive at Vietnam airport
At Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), or Da Nang airport, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'eVisa'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in — usually takes 1-2 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passing immigration, proceed to baggage claim. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. If you have goods over $500 USD or restricted items, use the red channel.
