Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the full period you plan to stay in Macau. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Macau immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Macau
Immigration officers at Macau International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
While not always requested, having a hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Macau can speed up the immigration process. Keep a copy on your phone or printed.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient financial means for your stay
Macau immigration may ask to see evidence you can support yourself during your visit. Carry a bank statement, credit card, or cash equivalent to at least 5,000 MOP (approx. 620 USD) for a short stay.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Macau, not from your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before you travel.
Overstaying is costly
Overstaying your 90-day visa-free period can result in fines of up to 500 MOP per day and possible deportation. Set a reminder to leave before your stamp expires.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Macau International Airport (MFM)
After landing, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration'. There are separate queues for Macau residents and visitors. Join the 'Visitors' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport at the immigration counter
Hand over your passport to the officer. They will check your visa-free eligibility and may ask about your stay duration, purpose of visit, and return ticket. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter. Keep your passport safe.
4
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, collect your checked luggage from the carousel. Then walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no restricted items. If you have goods to declare, use the red channel.
