New Zealand entry requirements for United Arab Emirates passport holders
UAE passport holders can travel to New Zealand without a traditional visa, but you'll need to apply for an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) online before you fly. It's quick, but you must have it approved before boarding. Here's what you need to know for a smooth entry in 2026.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| New Zealand eVisitor visa (NZeTA)You must get this online approval before you fly – it is not issued on arrival. Apply online before travel | Citizens of the United Arab Emirates must obtain a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before boarding a flight to New Zealand. The application is completed online and typically takes up to 72 hours to process. The NZeTA is valid for up to 2 years for multiple entries. | Required |
| Passport validityCheck your passport expiry – if it's too close, renew it before applying for the NZeTA. At least 6 months beyond departure | Your UAE passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your intended date of departure from New Zealand. Ensure your passport does not expire before this period. | Required |
| Blank passport pagesMake sure you have a clean, unmarked page in your passport for the arrival stamp. At least 1 blank page | Your passport must have at least 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Although New Zealand uses electronic records, a blank page is still required by airline and border officials. | Required |
| Return or onward ticketHave your flight booking ready – you won't be allowed to board without proof you'll leave New Zealand. Proof of departure | You must hold a confirmed return or onward ticket to a country you are eligible to enter. This is checked by airlines and may be requested by immigration on arrival. | Required |
| Proof of sufficient fundsImmigration may ask how you'll support yourself – carrying recent bank statements is a good idea. For your stay | You should be able to show evidence of sufficient funds to cover your stay in New Zealand, such as bank statements or cash. The amount is not fixed but should be enough for accommodation, food, and other expenses. | Recommended |
| Arrival declarationComplete this online form shortly before you fly – it speeds up your arrival process. New Zealand Traveller Declaration | New Zealand requires all travellers to complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration before arrival. This is done online within 24 hours before your flight departs. The declaration covers customs, biosecurity, and health information. | Not required |
| Visa extensionYou cannot extend this visa – plan your trip within the allowed time. Not extendable | The NZeTA does not allow you to extend your stay beyond the permitted visitor period (usually up to 3 months). If you wish to stay longer, you must apply for a different visa before your current one expires. | Not required |

Transiting through New Zealand
UAE passport holders transiting through New Zealand airports do not need a visa if they remain airside and depart within 24 hours. However, an NZeTA is required for any transit through New Zealand, even if not passing immigration.
- If you need to leave the airport or pass through immigration, you must obtain a visitor visa (or NZeTA if eligible) before travel.
- If you are transiting to or from Australia, you may need a transit visa for Australia separately.
