Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Macau. Airlines may enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or onward ticket ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Have at least MOP 5,000 (or equivalent in USD/EUR) in cash or a recent bank statement. Officers almost never check, but it's a formal requirement.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Macau, not from your departure date. If it's close to expiring, renew it before you go.
No visa extension available
The 30-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. If you need more time, you must leave Macau and re-enter, or apply for a visa before your stay expires.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Macau International Airport or ferry terminal
You'll land at Macau International Airport (MFM) or arrive by ferry from Hong Kong or mainland China. Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'.
2
Join the visitor queue
Look for the lane marked 'Visitors' or 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport and any supporting documents (return ticket, accommodation) ready.
3
Present your passport to the immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly.
4
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 30 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim (if you checked bags), then go through customs. You're now in Macau.
