Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Austrian passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in the Czech Republic. Since you're entering the Schengen zone, the 90/180-day rule applies across all 27 Schengen countries — your days in France, Germany, or Spain all count toward the same 90-day limit.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration at Prague Airport checks for a return or onward ticket out of the Schengen zone. A bus or train ticket to another Schengen country won't satisfy this — they want proof you're leaving the entire zone within your 90-day window.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a signed letter from a friend you're staying with. Border officers rarely ask for it, but budget airlines sometimes check before letting you board.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, card, or bank statement
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay — roughly €50–€100 per day. I've never been asked for it at Prague, but it's in the Schengen rulebook and some officers enforce it.Recommended
Schengen Zone Rules Apply
The Czech Republic is part of the Schengen Area. Your 90-day visa-free stay counts across all Schengen countries combined. If you've already spent time in other Schengen countries, that time counts toward your 90-day limit.
Passport Validity is Strictly Enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. This is not a suggestion — it's a legal requirement. Airlines may also deny boarding if your passport doesn't meet this rule.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare Documents Before Travel
Gather your passport (valid 6+ months), return ticket, first night accommodation confirmation, and travel insurance. Save digital copies on your phone and print backups.
2
Arrive at Prague Airport or Border
At Václav Havel Airport Prague or any land border, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and documents ready. The officer will check your passport, ask about your trip purpose and length of stay, then stamp your passport.
3
Enter the Schengen Area
Once stamped, you're in the Schengen zone. Your 90-day clock starts from that day. Keep the entry stamp safe — it's proof of legal entry.
4
During Your Stay
Carry your passport with you at all times (by law). If staying in a hotel, they'll register your presence. No additional reporting needed for short stays.
5
Departure
When leaving, go through passport control again. Your exit will be recorded. No exit fee or special procedure.
