Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for a Cambodia eVisa at evisa.gov.kh. The fee is $30 USD, and processing takes 3 working days. Print the approval letter and bring it with you — immigration will stamp your passport on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond arrival
Your Austrian passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry into Cambodia. Airlines check this at check-in — they will deny boarding if your passport expires sooner.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cambodia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a flight out of Cambodia. Have a printed or digital copy of your onward ticket ready — a bus or boat ticket may not be accepted.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host. Immigration rarely asks for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Have at least $500 USD in cash or a recent bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration may ask to see it, especially if you arrive without a return ticket.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa on arrival counter only accepts US dollars in cash. No credit cards, no euros. Bring small bills ($20s and $10s) — $100 notes are often refused. ATMs are available after you pass immigration.
E-visa alternative
You can also apply for an e-visa online before you travel (costs about $36). It's valid for 30 days and lets you skip the visa-on-arrival queue. Processing takes 3 business days. Useful if you want to save time at the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Fill out the arrival form
On the plane or at the visa counter, grab an arrival card and a visa application form. Fill in your details — name, passport number, flight, hotel address. Keep it simple.
2
Queue at the Visa on Arrival counter
At Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or Sihanoukville airports, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'. Hand over your passport, completed form, photo, and $30/$35 cash. The officer will process it — usually 5–10 minutes.
3
Collect your passport with visa sticker
They'll call your name or hand it back. Check the visa sticker: it should say 'T' (tourist) and show your entry date. You're now cleared to proceed to immigration.
4
Pass through immigration
Join the line for foreign passports. Present your passport (with visa), arrival card, and boarding pass. The officer stamps you in. Keep the departure card stub — you'll need it when leaving.
