Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Myanmar eVisa at the official Ministry of Immigration portal. Processing takes 3–5 business days, and you'll receive an approval letter via email. Print the letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw airports will check it before issuing your visa sticker.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity
Your Austrian passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your intended departure date from Myanmar. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration at Yangon will deny boarding if your passport expires sooner.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or show it on your phone — they may also check that your onward flight departs within the eVisa's validity period (usually 28 days from arrival).Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you're arriving without a pre-booked tour. A simple booking confirmation from Booking.com or Agoda works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Have at least $300 USD equivalent in cash or a credit card statement ready. Immigration rarely checks, but if asked, showing a bank statement or cash is enough. ATMs in Myanmar are unreliable — bring USD in crisp, undamaged notes.Recommended
eVisa only valid at specific airports
Your eVisa will only be accepted at Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw international airports. If you fly into another airport, you'll be denied entry. Land borders are also not an option.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Myanmar, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew before applying.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Myanmar eVisa website (evisa.moip.gov.mm). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50 USD) by credit card. Processing takes 3–5 working days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
You'll get an approval letter by email. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. The letter has a QR code that immigration will scan.
3
Arrive at Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw airport
The eVisa is only valid for entry through Yangon International Airport, Mandalay International Airport, or Naypyidaw International Airport. Land borders are not accepted. At immigration, present your passport, eVisa letter, and return ticket. You'll be stamped in for up to 28 days.
