Australian passport holders need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to enter Palestine via Israel, obtained online before travel. The ETA is valid for two years and allows multiple entries, making it a straightforward process for most visitors.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Entry visa (e-Visa/B2 visa)You must have an approved e-Visa before you arrive; without it you will be denied entry.
Apply online before travel
Australian passport holders must obtain an e-Visa (B2 visa) before traveling to Palestine. Apply at least 72 hours before departure via the official Israeli interior ministry ETA portal (https://interior.gov.il/en/eta). The visa costs 25 ILS (~$7 USD) and is valid for 2 years or until passport expiry, whichever comes first. Processing takes minutes to a few hours.Required
Passport validityBorder officials will check that your passport is valid well beyond your planned departure date.
At least 6 months beyond your stay
Your Australian passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Palestine. Ensure your passport does not expire within this period.Required
Blank passport pagesYou need a clean page for the border officer to stamp your passport.
At least 1 blank page
Your passport must have at least 1 blank page for entry/exit stamps. If you have fewer, renew your passport before traveling.Required
Return or onward ticketHaving a confirmed outbound ticket shows you are a genuine visitor and not planning to overstay.
Proof of departure
Carry a printed or digital copy of your return or onward flight ticket. Immigration may ask to see it as proof that you will leave Palestine/Israel before your visa expires.Required
Proof of fundsImmigration may ask how you will support yourself; having proof avoids delays.
Sufficient for your stay
Be prepared to show evidence of sufficient funds (e.g., bank statements, credit cards) to cover your expenses during your time in Palestine. The amount is not fixed but should match your planned length of stay.Recommended
Arrival declarationYou can skip any arrival declaration step—it's not part of the entry process.
Not required
No arrival declaration is required for Australian citizens entering Palestine. You do not need to fill out any additional forms upon arrival beyond standard immigration procedures. Not required
Entry via Israel only
Palestine has no international airport of its own. You'll enter through Israel (usually Ben Gurion Airport) or via the Allenby Bridge from Jordan. The ETA is required for all these entry points.
Gaza requires extra permits
The ETA does not cover entry into Gaza. You need separate permits from Israeli and Palestinian authorities, which are difficult to obtain and often denied. Check current travel advisories before planning a trip to Gaza.
Passport stamps and entry
If you prefer not to have an Israeli stamp in your passport, you can request a paper entry slip at Ben Gurion Airport. This can help if you plan to visit countries that don't recognize Israel. Just ask the officer politely.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your ETA online
Go to https://interior.gov.il/en/eta and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details and a credit card to pay the 25 ILS fee. Most applications are approved within minutes, but apply at least 72 hours ahead to be safe.
2
Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport (TLV)
Most travellers enter Palestine via Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv. After landing, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'Arrivals'. Have your passport and ETA confirmation ready (printed or on your phone).
3
Pass through immigration
The officer will scan your passport and check your ETA. They may ask where you're staying and your purpose of visit. Answer clearly and confidently. You'll receive an entry stamp (or a paper slip if you prefer not to have a stamp).
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, collect your bags and proceed through customs. There are no additional visa checks for entering Palestine itself — the ETA covers your stay in both Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Frequently asked questions

No, you don't need a traditional visa. You need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) which is obtained online. It costs 25 ILS (~$7 USD) and is valid for two years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
The ETA allows stays of up to 90 days per visit. It's a multiple-entry authorization, so you can come and go during its two-year validity.
No, the ETA is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to leave and re-enter, or contact the Israeli Population and Immigration Authority for special arrangements — but that's rare and not guaranteed.
Denials are rare for Australian citizens, but if it happens, you'll receive a notification. You can reapply, but it's better to check your details for errors first. If denied again, you'd need to apply for a visa at an Israeli embassy or consulate.
For the West Bank (including Ramallah, Bethlehem, Jericho), the ETA is sufficient. For Gaza, you need additional permits from both Israeli and Palestinian authorities — this is a separate, more complex process and not covered by the ETA.
Yes, the ETA you apply for at https://interior.gov.il/en/eta is the Israeli ETA-IL. It covers entry into Israel and the Palestinian territories, so you don't need anything extra for Palestine.
Yes, you can cross via the Allenby Bridge (King Hussein Bridge) from Jordan. The ETA is still required and will be checked at the border. Note that the crossing can be slow, so plan extra time.
