Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Myanmar eVisa at the official Ministry of Immigration portal at least 3 business days before departure. The eVisa costs $50 USD and is valid for a single entry up to 28 days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport to present at immigration.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Myanmar. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Yangon and Mandalay airports routinely ask for proof of a return or onward flight within your eVisa's validity period. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel booking confirmations or an invitation letter from your host in Myanmar can speed up immigration processing. Officers may ask where you are staying — having a printed address helps.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry at least $300 USD in cash or a credit card statement showing available funds. Immigration rarely asks, but budget airlines may check before boarding.Recommended
eVisa only valid at airports
You cannot use the eVisa to enter Myanmar by land. If you're arriving overland from Thailand, China, or India, you need a visa from a Myanmar embassy.
Keep a printed copy of your eVisa
Immigration will ask for the printed approval letter. Save a digital backup on your phone too, but the printed copy is required.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Myanmar eVisa website (evisa.moip.gov.mm). Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel dates. Upload a digital passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50 USD) with a credit or debit card.
2
Wait for approval
Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive an approval email with a PDF attachment. Print that PDF and keep it with your passport.
3
Arrive at the airport
eVisa holders must enter through Yangon International Airport (RGN), Mandalay International Airport (MDL), or Naypyidaw International Airport (NYT). Land border crossings are not allowed with an eVisa.
4
Go through immigration
At the immigration counter, hand over your passport, printed eVisa, and boarding pass. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. They'll stamp your passport and let you through.
