Bosnia and Herzegovina passport holders can enter Tajikistan without a visa for stays up to 30 days. This visa-free arrangement is in effect for 2026. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your arrival date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Tajikistan. Airlines at check-in may ask for at least 6 months of validity beyond your departure date — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tajikistan
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket showing you leave within 30 days. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready at the border.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers sometimes ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and contact number ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry enough cash or a bank statement to cover your stay — around $50 USD per day is a safe benchmark. Immigration rarely checks this, but it's better to have it.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it's close to expiring, renew it before you travel. Immigration at Dushanbe airport checks this carefully.
Keep a digital copy of everything
Save screenshots of your return ticket, accommodation booking, and passport info page on your phone. If you lose your documents, these copies help at the embassy.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport
You'll land at Dushanbe International Airport (DYU). Follow signs to 'Passport Control' — it's a straightforward queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your documents to immigration
Hand over your passport and any supporting documents (return ticket, accommodation booking) if asked. The officer will check your passport validity and stamp you in. This usually takes 2–5 minutes.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim. Then proceed through customs — there's a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods over the duty-free limit. You're free to go.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free entry is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a visa before you travel — contact the Tajik embassy in Sarajevo or apply for an e-visa if eligible.
Overstaying can result in fines and potential difficulties when leaving. The fine is typically around 200–500 TJS (about $20–$50 USD) per day of overstay, but it's enforced at the airport. Avoid it by leaving on time.
For stays under 30 days, no registration is required. If you somehow get an extension (which isn't possible under visa-free), you'd need to register. For standard tourist visits, just enjoy your trip.
Yes, the visa-free policy applies to all entry points — air and land borders. You can cross at any official border checkpoint. Just have your passport and onward ticket ready.
No, it's not a legal requirement for entry. But it's strongly recommended — medical evacuation from remote areas can cost thousands of dollars. A basic policy covering medical and evacuation is cheap insurance.
The local currency is the Tajikistani somoni (TJS). US dollars are widely accepted for exchange at banks and exchange offices. Bring crisp, new USD bills — old or damaged notes may be refused. ATMs are available in Dushanbe but less reliable elsewhere.
No mandatory vaccinations for entry. Routine vaccines (hepatitis A, typhoid) are recommended. Check with your travel clinic 4–6 weeks before departure.
