Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Colombia. Airlines check this at check-in. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Colombian immigration.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Colombia
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. A return flight or a ticket to another country within 90 days works. Budget airlines at Bogotá and Medellín check this before boarding.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it printed or on your phone avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a credit card or bank statement showing access to funds. Colombian immigration does not enforce a fixed minimum, but having around $500 USD equivalent is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Check-Mig pre-registrationCheck-Mig: Colombia's mandatory online pre-registration form at migracioncolombia.gov.co. Complete it within 72 hours before your flight — it takes under 5 minutes.
Mandatory online form within 72 hours of arrival
Fill out the free Check-Mig form at migracioncolombia.gov.co between 72 hours and 1 hour before your flight. You get a QR code — save it on your phone or print it. Officers scan it at immigration.Open Check-Mig formRequired
Check-Mig is mandatory
Complete the free Check-Mig form at migracioncolombia.gov.co within 1-5 days before your flight. Without it, you may be denied boarding or entry. Save the confirmation as a PDF or screenshot.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Colombia, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Complete Check-Mig online
Go to migracioncolombia.gov.co and fill in the free Check-Mig form. Do this 1-5 days before your flight. You'll need your flight details, passport info, and first night accommodation address. Save the confirmation as a PDF or screenshot.
2
Arrive at Colombian airport
At Bogotá (El Dorado), Medellín, or Cartagena airport, follow signs to 'Migración' or 'Extranjeros'. Belgian passport holders use the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport, Check-Mig confirmation, and return ticket ready.
3
Pass through immigration
Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer will stamp your passport with a 90-day entry. You may be asked about your travel plans, accommodation, and return ticket. Answer clearly and confidently.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. There's a green 'nothing to declare' channel and a red 'goods to declare' channel. If you have nothing to declare, go green.

Frequently asked questions

No, the 90-day visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Colombia before the 90 days are up. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a different visa type before traveling.
Overstaying can result in a fine of about 2-3 USD per day overstayed, and you may be banned from re-entering Colombia for a period. Always leave on time or apply for an extension before your stay expires (though extensions aren't available for visa-free entry).
Not required for Belgian passport holders arriving directly from Europe. However, if you've recently visited a country with yellow fever risk (e.g., Brazil, Peru), you may need proof of vaccination. Check current requirements before travel.
No. Immigration strictly requires at least 6 months of validity from your entry date. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before you travel.
Yes. You must complete it 1-5 days before your flight. Without it, you may be denied boarding or entry. It's free and takes about 10 minutes online.
You still need a return or onward ticket. A bus ticket or flight to Ecuador, Peru, or Brazil counts as an onward ticket. Keep a copy handy.
Technically, the visa-free entry is for tourism or business meetings only. Remote work for a foreign employer is in a gray area. Many digital nomads do it, but officially you should check with Colombian immigration if you plan to work for a Colombian company.
