Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Belgian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Turkey. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Turkish immigration, but airlines may check for at least 6 months validity — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Turkey
Immigration officers at Turkish airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave within the 90-day visa-free period. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines check this before boarding too.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their address and phone number covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Turkish immigration can request evidence of sufficient funds — roughly €50–€100 per day of your stay. A recent bank statement or credit card with available limit works fine.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If you have less than 6 months remaining from your entry date, you will not be allowed to board. Double-check before you go.
Keep a copy of your documents
Save digital copies of your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation on your phone and in cloud storage. If your phone is lost or stolen, you'll still have access.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of both on your phone. Consider getting travel insurance and a local eSIM.
2
Arrive at Turkish immigration
At Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'All Passports'. Join the queue for non-Turkish citizens. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, where you're staying, how long you plan to stay. Answer briefly and honestly. They may also ask to see your return ticket or accommodation proof.
4
Receive entry stamp and proceed
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay period (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away. Then collect your luggage and exit customs.
