Australia entry requirements for Bulgaria passport holders
Bulgarian passport holders need a visa to enter Australia. You must apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) online before you travel. This requirement applies in 2026 and there are no visa-free options for Bulgarian citizens.
Entry requirements

| eVisitor visa (subclass 651)You need to get this visa approved before you fly to Australia. Online application required | Bulgarian citizens must apply for an eVisitor visa online before travel. The visa is free of charge and allows stays of up to 3 months per visit for tourism or business purposes. Apply at least 2 weeks before departure. | Required |

| Proof of sufficient fundsHave a recent bank statement or credit card handy in case they ask how you'll support yourself. May be requested | You may be asked to show you have enough money to cover your stay. A bank statement or credit card with available funds is usually acceptable. | Recommended |
| Health and character requirementsAustralia checks that visitors are healthy and have no serious criminal record – you might need to provide documents. Standard for visa grant | You must meet health and character requirements. You may need to undergo a medical exam or provide a police certificate if requested by immigration. | Required |
| Travel insuranceGet insurance to protect yourself from high medical costs or trip disruptions. Not mandatory but advised | Travel insurance is not a visa requirement, but it is strongly recommended to cover medical expenses and unexpected events during your stay. | Recommended |

Transiting through Australia
Bulgarian citizens transiting through Australia (including airside) generally need a Transit visa (subclass 771) unless they hold an ETA or another valid Australian visa. However, if you are transiting for less than 8 hours and remain airside, you may be eligible for a transit waiver, but this is not guaranteed – check with the airline.
- Holders of a valid ETA or Visitor visa (subclass 600) do not need a separate transit visa.
- Citizens of certain countries may be exempt, but Bulgaria is not on the list.
