Passport validity is critical
Your Bulgarian passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter the UK. If it expires sooner, renew it before you travel — otherwise you risk being refused entry at the border.
eGates not available for Bulgarian passports
At UK airports, Bulgarian passport holders cannot use the eGates (automated barriers). You must join the 'All Other Passports' queue and see a border officer. This applies even if you have a biometric passport.
ETA is quick and cheap
Since January 8, 2025, you need an ETA before flying to the UK. It costs just £10 and covers multiple trips for up to 2 years. Approval usually comes through within minutes, but apply at least 48 hours before departure to be safe.
