Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your Bulgarian passport must be valid for at least the length of your stay in Mozambique. Airlines at Sofia and Maputo check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration at Maputo Airport asks for a return or onward ticket before stamping you in. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they've been known to deny entry if you can't show one.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Immigration officers at Maputo may ask for proof of where you're staying. A printed hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from a host works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers at Maputo occasionally ask for proof of sufficient funds. Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least 5,000 MZN (about $80 USD) per day of your stay.Recommended
Cash only for visa fee
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash — Mozambican metical or US dollars. Cards are not accepted. Have exact change if possible to avoid issues.
Visa on arrival is not extendable
You cannot extend the 30-day visa on arrival. If you need to stay longer, you must leave the country and re-enter, or apply for a different visa type before your trip.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration
After landing at Maputo International Airport (or other major entry points), follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. There's usually a separate queue for visa-on-arrival applicants.
2
Present documents and pay
Hand over your passport, return ticket (screenshot is fine), and accommodation booking. Pay the visa fee in cash (MZN or USD). The officer will process your visa and stamp your passport.
3
Collect passport and proceed
Once processed, you'll get your passport back with the visa sticker. Double-check the validity dates. Then proceed to baggage claim and customs.
