Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Bulgarian passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Paraguay. Paraguay does not enforce a strict 6-month validity rule, but airlines may ask for at least 3 months remaining.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Silvio Pettirossi Airport regularly ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. Have a bank statement or credit card available — around $50–$100 USD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If your passport expires within 6 months of your arrival date, you will be denied boarding. No exceptions. Renew your passport well in advance.
Keep a digital copy of your documents
Save photos of your passport, return ticket, and accommodation booking on your phone and in cloud storage. If your documents are lost or stolen, having digital copies makes replacement much easier.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you fly, gather your passport (valid 6+ months), return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep digital copies on your phone and a printed backup in your carry-on.
2
Arrive at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU)
Most flights from Europe land at Asunción's main airport. Follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). There are usually two queues: one for Paraguayan citizens and one for foreigners. Join the foreigners queue.
3
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation details. Answer clearly and politely. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry. The process usually takes 2–5 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods to declare. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free entry is not extendable. You must leave before the 90 days are up. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a different visa type before traveling or leave and re-enter (but re-entry may not reset the clock immediately).
No, there is no official yellow fever requirement for Bulgarian passport holders entering Paraguay. However, if you've recently been in a country with yellow fever (e.g., Brazil, Bolivia), you may be asked for proof of vaccination. Check with your airline before departure.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at immigration. Renew your passport before traveling. There are no exceptions for short stays.
No, the visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits only. If you plan to work, study, or volunteer, you need a specific visa. Overstaying or working without authorization can lead to fines and a ban.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll be fined approximately 100,000 PYG (about $13 USD) per day over the limit, and you may be banned from re-entering for a period. Always leave on time or apply for an extension before your stay expires (though extensions are not available for visa-free entries).
No, there is no separate arrival declaration form for Paraguay. The immigration officer will stamp your passport and that's it. You don't need to fill out any online form beforehand.
Paraguay is generally safe for tourists, but like anywhere, take normal precautions. Avoid walking alone at night in unfamiliar areas, keep valuables out of sight, and use registered taxis or ride-sharing apps. Asunción and Ciudad del Este have higher petty crime rates.
