Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Tajikistan. Airlines at check-in will verify this before letting you board.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tajikistan
Immigration officers at Dushanbe airport routinely ask for a printed or digital onward ticket showing you leave within 30 days. Have it ready on your phone or as a printout.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Tajikistan. Border officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have access to at least $50 per day of your stay, either in cash or on a card. Officers rarely check this for short visits, but it helps to have a bank statement ready.Recommended
Visa-free only for 30 days
Bulgarian passport holders get 30 days visa-free. This is not extendable. If you plan to stay longer, apply for a visa at a Tajik embassy before you travel.
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.
No registration needed
Unlike some other countries, Tajikistan does not require you to register with immigration for stays under 30 days. Just enjoy your trip.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date), print or save your return ticket and first night hotel booking, and arrange travel insurance. Also get a local eSIM or SIM card so you're connected on arrival.
2
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport (or other border)
At Dushanbe airport, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for Tajik citizens and foreigners. Join the foreigner queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, where you're staying, and how long you plan to stay. Answer clearly. They will stamp your passport with a 30-day entry.
4
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel. Then go through customs — green channel if you have nothing to declare, red channel if you have items over the duty-free limit (e.g., cash over $3,000 equivalent).
