Brazilian passport holders need a visa to enter Kenya. You can apply online for an e-Visa before you travel — it's straightforward and takes a few days to process. Plan ahead to avoid last-minute stress.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Kenya eVisa (eTA)
Apply for a Kenya eVisa at the official eTA portal before travel. The application takes about 15 minutes and costs $30 USD (single entry) or $50 USD (multiple entry). Approval usually comes within 2–3 business days, but apply at least a week ahead to be safe.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure from Kenya
Your Brazilian passport needs at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Kenya enforces the 6-month validity rule strictly — airlines check this at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at JKIA routinely ask for a return or onward flight ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they may also check that your onward ticket matches the visa duration.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a confirmed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Kenya. Immigration may ask for it if you look like you're staying with friends or family.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, card, or bank statement
Have at least $500 USD equivalent in cash or a credit card with available limit. Immigration rarely checks, but if they do, they want to see you can cover your stay without working.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination required
If you're arriving from Brazil (a yellow fever risk country), you must show a valid Yellow Card (International Certificate of Vaccination). Without it, you may be vaccinated on arrival or denied entry. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.
e-Visa is the way to go
Skip the visa-on-arrival hassle. Apply online at etakenya.go.ke at least a week before you fly. It's cheaper, faster, and you'll breeze through immigration.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-Visa online
Go to the official Kenya e-Visa website (etakenya.go.ke). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the visa fee (around $51 USD for a single-entry tourist visa) with a credit or debit card. Processing usually takes 2–3 business days, but apply at least a week before your trip to be safe.
2
Receive and print your e-Visa
Once approved, you'll get an e-Visa by email. Print a copy and save a digital version on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Kenya.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Before you leave, gather: your printed e-Visa, passport (with 6+ months validity and 1 blank page), return/onward ticket, first night accommodation confirmation, and travel insurance details. Keep them in your carry-on.
4
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) or Moi International Airport (MBA)
At immigration, join the 'Visitors' queue. Present your passport, printed e-Visa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp your passport — that's your entry. The whole process usually takes 15–30 minutes if you have all documents ready.
