Brazilian passport holders can travel to India for tourism, business, or medical visits without a traditional visa — you just need an eVisa approved before you fly. As of 2026, the eVisa is valid for 60 days from your date of entry, and you can apply online up to 120 days before your trip.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
India requires an eVisa for Brazilian passport holders. Apply at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 days before departure — processing takes up to 72 hours. Fees range from $25 to $80 USD depending on the visa type (tourist, business, medical).Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your intended departure date from India. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Indian airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or digital version ready — they may check it before stamping your passport.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in India. Officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement or enough cash/credit available to cover your stay. Immigration rarely asks, but it's better to have proof if questioned.Recommended
eVisa is not for all purposes
The eVisa covers tourism, business, and medical visits. If you plan to work, study, or volunteer in India, you need a different visa — apply at the Indian embassy in Brasília before you travel.
Keep your eVisa approval handy
Some airlines check for eVisa approval before letting you board. Have the PDF or email ready at check-in. If you don't have it, they may deny boarding.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Indian eVisa website (indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a recent passport-style photo and a scan of your passport's bio page. Pay the fee (around $25-$80 depending on duration and nationality). You'll get a confirmation email within 3-5 business days.
2
Pack your documents
Print or save on your phone: the eVisa approval email, your passport, return ticket, hotel booking, and travel insurance. Keep them together in a folder or a notes app.
3
Arrive at an Indian airport
eVisa holders can enter through 28 designated airports, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Goa. At immigration, join the 'eVisa' queue. Hand over your passport and eVisa printout. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly and you'll be through in 5-10 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel, then proceed to customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Exit into the arrivals hall.

Frequently asked questions

Most eVisa applications are processed within 3-5 business days. Apply at least a week before your flight to be safe. You can check the status online using your application ID.
No, the eVisa is not extendable. You must leave India before the 60-day validity expires. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to apply for a different visa type (like a tourist visa) from a Brazilian consulate before traveling.
You won't be allowed to board your flight. Renew your passport first, then apply for the eVisa with the new passport. The 6-month validity is strictly enforced.
Digital is usually fine — show the PDF on your phone at immigration. But printing a copy is a good backup in case your phone dies or the network is slow. Many travellers print two copies just in case.
No, only through 28 designated airports. The main ones are Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Goa, Kochi, and Ahmedabad. Check the official list before booking flights. Land borders and seaports are not eVisa entry points.
Rejections are rare but can happen if your photo doesn't meet specs, your passport is damaged, or you have a criminal record. You'll get an email explaining the reason. You can reapply with corrected information, or apply for a regular visa at the Indian embassy in Brasília.
It's not mandatory for the eVisa, but it's a very good idea. A basic policy covering medical evacuation, hospital stays, and trip cancellation costs around $30-50 for a 2-week trip. Without it, a single hospital visit can cost hundreds of dollars.
