Don't skip the ETA
Brazilian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Sri Lanka. You must have an approved ETA before you board your flight. Airlines will refuse to let you check in without it.
Apply early — but not too early
The ETA is usually valid for 180 days from approval, so you can apply up to 6 months in advance. But if your plans change, you might lose the fee. Applying 1–2 weeks before your flight is a good balance.

Apply for your ETA online
Go to https://eta.gov.lk/ and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, flight info, and a place to stay. The form takes about 10 minutes. Pay the fee with a credit or debit card.

Wait for approval
Most ETAs are approved within 24 hours, but it can take up to 2 business days. Check your email (including spam) for the approval. Print it or save it on your phone — you'll need to show it at check-in.

Check in for your flight
At the airline counter, show your passport and your ETA approval. The airline will verify your ETA before giving you a boarding pass. If you don't have it, you won't board.

Arrive at the airport in Sri Lanka
When you land at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Colombo, follow signs to 'Immigration'. Have your passport, ETA approval, and boarding pass ready. The officer will stamp your passport — that's your entry. You'll usually get a 30-day stay.

After the immigration stamp, grab your luggage and head through customs. There's no separate visa-on-arrival process — your ETA is all you need.

Transiting through Sri Lanka
Transit visa required
Brazilian passport holders transiting through Sri Lanka require a Transit ETA unless they remain airside and depart within 48 hours. The Transit ETA is valid for 48 hours from arrival.
