Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Tajikistan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Outbound travel proof
Immigration officers at Dushanbe International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Border officers may request your hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from a host. Keep a printed copy of your booking confirmation or the host's contact details handy.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or card
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. Carry a credit card or around $500 USD in cash as a safe buffer.Recommended
GBAO permit required for the Pamir Mountains
If you plan to travel to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (the Pamir Highway, Murghab, Khorog), you must get a GBAO permit. It's not included in the visa-free entry. Apply at the OVIR office in Dushanbe or online before you go.
No visa, no fee — but keep documents handy
You don't need to pay anything or fill out forms at the border. However, immigration officers may ask for your return ticket or hotel booking. Keep digital copies on your phone or printed in your carry-on.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport (or land border)
Most Brazilian travellers fly into Dushanbe International Airport (DYU). After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' — there are separate queues for foreigners and Tajik citizens. Join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand over your passport (valid 6+ months) and any requested documents like your return ticket or hotel booking. The officer will check your details, take a photo, and stamp your passport. No visa fee, no forms to fill.
3
Collect your luggage and exit customs
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare. The whole process usually takes 15–30 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free entry is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a visa at a Tajik embassy or consulate before travelling. Overstaying can result in fines and entry bans.
For stays under 30 days, no registration is required. If you stay longer (with a visa), you must register with the Migration Service within 3 days of arrival. Hotels usually handle this for you.
The same visa-free rules apply at all official land borders, such as the crossings from Uzbekistan (Oybek/Fotehobod) or Kyrgyzstan (Kyzyl-Bel). Expect longer queues and more thorough document checks. Have your passport and onward ticket ready.
No. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and transit only. Any paid work or study requires a proper visa or work permit obtained before arrival.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Tajikistan strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule. Renew your passport before travelling.
No. The visa-free entry is completely free. You don't pay anything at the border or online. If you need a visa for longer stays, fees vary by embassy — typically around $30–$60 for a single-entry visa.
You need a separate GBAO permit, even if you're visa-free. You can get it at the OVIR office in Dushanbe (costs about $20) or online via the Tajikistan e-Visa portal. Without it, you'll be turned back at checkpoints.
