Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Malaysia
Your passport needs at least two blank pages for entry stamps. Airlines at Zurich and Geneva check the 6-month rule before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Malaysia
Immigration officers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. A flight booking to any destination outside Malaysia within 90 days works. Budget airlines like AirAsia check this at check-in too.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed or digital hotel confirmation for at least the first few nights. If staying with friends, a letter of invitation with their Malaysian address and phone number helps. Officers rarely ask, but it speeds things up when they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, cards, or bank statement
Carry at least 500 MYR (around 110 CHF) in cash or have a credit card with available limit. Immigration may ask how you plan to fund your stay. A recent bank statement or ATM card showing sufficient balance works fine.Recommended
MDAC is mandatory
You must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online within 3 days before your flight. It's free and quick. Without it, you may be delayed at immigration.
Overstaying is expensive
The fine is RM 500 per day (about USD 110). Overstaying can also lead to a re-entry ban. Set a reminder to leave before day 90.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Malaysian immigration
At Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) or other entry points, join the foreign passport queue. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in for up to 90 days.
2
Complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)
Before you arrive, fill out the MDAC online at https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main. It's free and takes 5 minutes. You'll get a QR code — save it on your phone. Show it at immigration if asked.
3
Collect your baggage and exit
After clearing immigration, collect your luggage from the carousel and proceed through customs. There's nothing else to do — you're in.
