Cameroonian passport holders need a visa to enter the United Kingdom. You must apply for a Standard Visitor visa before you travel — there's no visa-on-arrival or e-visa option for Cameroonians. Plan ahead, as the application involves an online form, an appointment at a visa application centre, and a decision that can take a few weeks.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
UK VisaYou need a visa sticker or vignette in your passport before you fly to the UK.
Apply at British embassy or consulate
Cameroonian citizens must obtain a UK visa before travelling. You are not eligible for the UK eVisa programme, so you must apply at a British embassy or consulate (e.g., in Yaoundé) or via the official UK visa application centre. Submit your application well in advance of your planned travel date.Required
Passport validityIf your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying for your visa.
At least 6 months from arrival
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended date of arrival in the UK. Check the expiry date before booking anything.Required
Blank passport pagesThe visa and entry stamp need a clean page to be placed on.
At least 1 blank page
Your passport must have at least one completely blank page (both sides) for the UK visa vignette and entry stamp. Ensure no pages are torn or marked.Required
Return or onward ticketBorder officers want to see that you plan to leave the UK after your visit.
Proof of departure from the UK
You must have a confirmed return or onward ticket showing you will leave the UK before your visa expires. This is typically checked at boarding and by UK Border Force.Required
Proof of fundsYou need to prove you can support yourself without working in the UK.
Sufficient money for your stay
You must be able to show you have enough money to cover your accommodation, living costs, and return travel for the duration of your stay. Bank statements or payslips from the last 3-6 months are usually accepted.Required
Accommodation detailsBorder officers may ask where you are staying to verify your travel plans.
Where you will stay
Provide evidence of where you will stay in the UK, such as a hotel booking or a letter of invitation from a UK resident. This is often required for the visa application and may be asked at the border.Required
Travel insuranceInsurance protects you from high medical costs if you get sick or injured.
Recommended for medical coverage
Although not a legal requirement, it is strongly recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical treatment, as healthcare in the UK is not free for visitors.Recommended
Arrival declarationYou can proceed directly to passport control upon arrival.
Not required
The UK does not require an arrival declaration for Cameroonian passport holders. You do not need to fill out any online form before landing. Not required
No e-visa option for Cameroonians
Even though the UK has an e-visa system for some nationalities, Cameroonian passport holders are not eligible. You must apply through the standard visa application process at the embassy/consulate — there's no shortcut.
Visa Application Centre in Yaoundé
The only UK Visa Application Centre in Cameroon is in Yaoundé. If you live in Douala or elsewhere, you'll need to travel to Yaoundé for your biometric appointment. Book early — slots can be limited.
Overstaying is serious
UK visitor visas are not extendable. Overstaying even a few days can result in a ban from re-entering the UK for up to 10 years. Make sure you leave before your visa expiry date.

What happens at the border

1
Complete the online application
Go to the UK Visas and Immigration website and fill out the Standard Visitor visa form. You'll need your passport details, travel plans, and answers to questions about your background. After submitting, you'll be directed to pay the fee and book your biometric appointment.
2
Book and attend your biometric appointment
Schedule an appointment at the UK Visa Application Centre in Yaoundé (there's no other VAC in Cameroon). On the day, bring your printed application form, passport, and supporting documents. You'll give fingerprints and a digital photo. The staff will also scan your documents.
3
Wait for a decision
After your appointment, your application is sent to a UK Visas and Immigration office for processing. Standard processing for visitor visas from Cameroon typically takes 3–4 weeks, but can be longer during peak periods. You can track your application online using your reference number.
4
Collect your passport and travel
When a decision is made, you'll be notified to collect your passport from the VAC (or you can opt for courier delivery). If approved, your passport will have a vignette sticker with your visa validity. Check the dates carefully before you travel.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing for a Standard Visitor visa from Cameroon typically takes 3–4 weeks after your biometric appointment. However, it can take longer during peak seasons (summer and Christmas). There's no priority service available in Cameroon, so plan well ahead — at least 6–8 weeks before your intended travel date.
The Standard Visitor visa fee is £115 for a 6-month visit. This is paid online when you submit your application. There are no additional mandatory fees at the VAC, but you may pay extra for optional services like SMS tracking or courier delivery of your passport.
No. While the application form is online, you must attend an in-person biometric appointment at the UK Visa Application Centre in Yaoundé. There is no e-visa option for Cameroonian passport holders. You'll need to provide fingerprints and a photo at the VAC.
Bring your printed application form, your passport, the payment receipt, and your supporting documents (bank statements, employment letter, accommodation proof, travel itinerary). Also bring a copy of your passport's data page. The VAC staff will scan your documents and return your originals — they don't keep them.
No. Standard Visitor visas are not extendable. If you need to stay longer than 6 months, you must leave the UK and apply for a different visa category (e.g., work or study) from Cameroon. Overstaying can lead to a ban from re-entering the UK.
No. The TB test certificate is only required if you're staying in the UK for more than 6 months. For a standard visitor visa (up to 6 months), you don't need it. But if you're applying for a long-term visa or a different category, check the specific requirements.
If your visa is refused, you'll receive a letter explaining the reasons. You can reapply, but you'll need to address the refusal grounds (e.g., insufficient funds, weak ties to Cameroon). There's no formal appeal for visitor visas, so it's better to submit a strong application the first time. Consider seeking advice from a reputable immigration consultant if you're unsure.
