Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get a visa on arrival at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or Sihanoukville airports. Pay $30 USD in cash (exact change preferred) — they don't accept cards or other currencies. Have one passport photo ready; if you don't have one, they'll charge an extra $5 USD.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Valid passport
Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date in Cambodia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Return or onward ticket
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel within 30 days. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight or bus ticket ready — they check this before stamping you in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Proof of accommodation
Have a hotel booking confirmation or host invitation ready. Officers rarely ask for it, but if you're arriving without a reservation, they may question your plans.Recommended
Proof of funds
Proof of funds
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Officers almost never check this for short visits, but it's a formal requirement.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa-on-arrival counter accepts only US dollars cash. No cards, no riel. ATMs are available after you pass immigration, so you can't withdraw money before paying. Bring $30–$35 in small bills.
Photo service available
If you forget a passport photo, don't worry. The visa counter has a photo booth that takes and prints your picture for about $2–$5. It's quick and reliable.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the visa-on-arrival counter
After deplaning at Phnom Penh (PNH) or Siem Reap (SAI) airport, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'. Fill out the application form (available at the counter). Have your passport, photo, and cash ready.
2
Submit documents and pay
Hand over your passport, completed form, photo, and $30 (tourist) or $35 (business). The officer will process it — usually takes 5–15 minutes. You'll get a receipt and your passport back with the visa sticker.
3
Proceed to immigration
Take your passport with the new visa to the immigration officer. They'll stamp you in. Keep the arrival card they give you — you'll need it when leaving.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. The whole process from landing to exiting usually takes 30–60 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Major land crossings like Poipet (from Thailand), Bavet (from Vietnam), and Cham Yeam (from Laos) all have visa-on-arrival counters. The process is the same as at airports — same fee, same documents. Expect slightly longer queues at busy borders.
The tourist visa (T-class) is valid for 30 days from the date of entry. You cannot extend it. The business visa (E-class) is also 30 days but can be extended once for an additional 30 days at an immigration office in Cambodia.
No problem. The visa counter has a photo service for about $2–$5. They'll take your picture and print it on the spot. It adds a few minutes to the process.
No. Only US dollars cash is accepted. Cambodian riel is not accepted for visa fees. Cards are not accepted at the visa counter. Bring exact change if possible — officers sometimes don't have change for large bills.
Yes. You need proof of onward travel, which can be a bus or boat ticket out of the country. A flight booking is fine too. Immigration wants to see you'll leave within the visa period.
Overstay costs $10 per day, paid at immigration when you leave. It's strictly enforced. If you overstay more than 30 days, you may be banned from re-entering for a period. Avoid it.
Yes, Cambodia offers an e-visa for tourism. It costs $36 + processing fee, takes 3 business days, and is valid for 30 days. You enter through Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or Sihanoukville airports, plus a few land borders. It saves time at the airport but requires advance planning.
