Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Mozambique
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry. Airlines at Chinese departure airports check this before letting you board. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before you travel.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof you will leave Mozambique within 30 days
Immigration officers at Maputo International Airport ask for a printed or digital onward ticket. Budget airlines flying into Mozambique often check this at check-in. Have a copy of your flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Mozambique. Officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A simple booking confirmation works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Immigration may ask for bank statements or cash to confirm you have enough for your trip. Around $500 USD equivalent is a safe amount to show. ATMs are available in Maputo but not everywhere.Recommended
Visa-free only for 30 days
The visa-free policy is strictly for stays up to 30 days. It cannot be extended. If you plan to stay longer, apply for a visa at a Mozambican embassy before you go.
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. Airlines check this before boarding—if it's close, renew first.
No visa fee at the airport
Chinese passport holders pay nothing to enter Mozambique for up to 30 days. Just show your passport and return ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from arrival). Print or save on your phone: return ticket, first night accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Download an eSIM or buy a local SIM at Maputo airport to avoid queues.
2
Arrive at Mozambique airport
At Maputo (MPM), Beira (BEW), or Nampula (APL), follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present documents at immigration counter
Hand over your passport and return ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport—check the stamp says 30 days or less.
4
Collect baggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. No visa fee to pay. You're free to enter.
