Guinea customs rules & duty-free allowances

Last reviewed July 2, 2026·Official source

Guinea's customs enforcement is notably strict on cash declarations and agricultural imports. The biggest risk for travelers is failing to declare currency over 10,000 USD, which can lead to seizure and fines up to 50% of the amount. Meat and dairy from outside ECOWAS are effectively banned without a special permit.

Duty-free allowances

1 liter of spirits (over 22% ABV) OR 2 liters of wine or beer. Must be 18 years or older. Duty-free value included in the 800 USD goods allowance.

or 50 cigars / 250 g
Cash to declare
$10,000
Declare any amount over 10,000 USD (or equivalent in GNF, EUR, etc.) on the customs declaration form. This is approximately 85,000,000 GNF at current rates. Failure to declare can result in seizure and fines up to 50% of the undeclared amount.

Arriving: red vs green channel

After collecting your luggage, proceed to the customs area. Use the green channel if you have nothing to declare. Use the red channel if you have goods exceeding the 800 USD allowance, cash over 10,000 USD, or any restricted/prohibited items. A customs declaration card is distributed on the flight or at the airport; fill it out and keep it ready for inspection.

Bringing medication

Personal medications for up to 3 months are allowed with a prescription or doctor's note. Narcotics, psychotropics, and any drug containing codeine or tramadol are strictly prohibited without prior authorization from the Guinean Ministry of Health. Apply at least 30 days in advance.

Food, plants & animal products

All food, plants, seeds, meat, dairy, and animal products must be declared. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat are generally prohibited without a phytosanitary certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture. Processed and packaged foods for personal use up to 2 kg are allowed if declared.

Rules worth knowing

No Duty-Free Shops at Conakry Airport

Conakry International Airport (CKY) has no duty-free shops after security. Purchase your duty-free allowances before arriving in Guinea, as there is no opportunity to buy them on arrival.

Strict Prohibition on Meat and Dairy from Outside ECOWAS

Importing fresh or frozen meat, poultry, or dairy products from outside the ECOWAS region is banned without a special permit from the Ministry of Agriculture. Even small quantities for personal use are subject to seizure and fines.
