Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your entry date into Thailand. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Thailand
Immigration at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang routinely asks for a flight out of Thailand within 60 days. Budget airlines are especially strict — they'll check before issuing a boarding pass. A printed itinerary or digital booking works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host address
Officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a hotel reservation. A printed booking confirmation or a screenshot of your Airbnb reservation is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family
Immigration can ask you to show cash or a bank statement proving you have at least 20,000 THB (about $550 USD) for your stay. In practice, they rarely ask, but having a credit card and some cash visible helps.Recommended
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)Thailand Digital Arrival Card — a free 2-minute online pre-registration at tdac.immigration.go.th. Not mandatory, but gets you through the immigration queue faster.
Optional online pre-registration
TDAC is a free 2-minute form at tdac.immigration.go.th where you enter your flight and passport details. It's not mandatory, but completing it before you fly gets you through the immigration queue faster — the officer scans your QR code and you're done.Register on TDACOptional
Overstay penalties
Overstaying even one day triggers a fine of 500 THB per day (max 20,000 THB). You'll also get an overstay stamp that can cause problems for future visa applications or entries. Set a reminder to leave on time.
TDAC saves time
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is free and optional, but completing it before you fly can cut your immigration queue time significantly. Do it at tdac.immigration.go.th.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book a return/onward ticket. Reserve first night accommodation. Optionally complete the TDAC online. Get travel insurance and a local SIM/eSIM.
2
Arrive at Thai immigration
At any Thai airport (BKK, DMK, HKT, CNX, etc.), follow signs to 'Passport Control' for foreigners. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. If asked, show your return ticket and accommodation details.
3
Receive entry stamp
The immigration officer will stamp your passport with a 'Visa Exempt' entry valid for 60 days. Keep the stamp intact — it shows your legal stay period.
4
Exit Thailand before 60 days
You must leave Thailand before the 60-day period ends. Overstaying incurs a fine of 500 THB per day (max 20,000 THB) and may affect future entries.
