Danish passport holders need a visa to enter Kenya. Apply online for an eVisa before you travel — it's straightforward and skips airport queues. Since 2026, the eVisa is the standard entry method.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
You must apply for a Kenya eVisa at the official eTA portal before departure. The application takes about 15 minutes and costs around $30 USD. Approval usually comes within 2–3 business days — do not book non-refundable flights until you have it.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your Danish passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Kenya. Immigration officers at JKIA check this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kenya
Immigration will ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket at the border. Airlines also check this before issuing your boarding pass in Copenhagen or any transit point.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed or digital hotel reservation for your entire stay. If staying with friends or family, carry their contact details and address — officers sometimes call to verify.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough funds for your trip. There is no fixed minimum, but around $500 USD for a short stay is a safe benchmark.Recommended
eVisa is the way to go
The official Kenya eVisa is cheaper ($34 vs $50 on arrival) and saves you waiting in the visa-on-arrival queue at the airport. Apply at etakenya.go.ke at least a week before you fly.
Passport validity is strict
Kenya enforces the 6-month validity rule. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding or entry. Check your passport now.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Kenya eVisa website (etakenya.go.ke). Fill in the application, upload your passport scan and a passport photo, and pay the fee (around $34 USD for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing usually takes 2–3 business days.
2
Print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get a PDF by email. Print it out and keep a digital copy on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Kenya.
3
Arrive at JKIA (Nairobi) or Moi International (Mombasa)
At immigration, join the 'Visitors' queue. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in — usually for up to 90 days.
