Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
Thailand strictly enforces the 6-month passport validity rule at check-in and immigration. Your passport must have at least two blank pages for entry stamps. Airlines at Copenhagen and other EU hubs will deny boarding if your passport expires sooner.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Thailand within 60 days
Immigration officers at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Budget airlines check this at check-in too. The ticket must show you leave Thailand within the 60-day visa-free period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a hotel booking. Have a printed or digital confirmation for your first few nights. A hostel booking or Airbnb reservation works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Minimum 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family
Thailand's official requirement is 20,000 THB (about €530) per person or 40,000 THB per family. Cash, a bank statement, or a credit card showing available credit all satisfy this. Officers rarely ask, but have proof ready.Recommended
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)Thailand Digital Arrival Card — a free 2-minute online pre-registration at tdac.immigration.go.th. Not mandatory, but gets you through the immigration queue faster.
Optional online pre-registration
TDAC is a free 2-minute online form at tdac.immigration.go.th. Fill it in before your flight and you get a QR code that lets you use the faster immigration lane at major airports. Not mandatory, but saves time.Register on TDACOptional
Overstay is expensive and risky
Overstaying even one day costs 500 THB. If you overstay more than 90 days, you face a 1-year re-entry ban. Set a reminder on your phone for day 55 to plan your exit.
TDAC saves time at immigration
Fill out the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card at tdac.immigration.go.th before you fly. It gives you a QR code that lets you use a faster lane at immigration. Takes 5 minutes.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before flying
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry). Book a return or onward ticket within 60 days. Book your first night's accommodation. Optionally complete the TDAC online form. Print or screenshot everything.
2
At the departure airport in Denmark
The airline check-in agent will verify your passport validity and onward ticket. They may also ask for proof of accommodation. If everything's in order, you'll get your boarding pass.
3
Arrival at a Thai airport (BKK, DMK, HKT, CNX, etc.)
Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. Foreign passport queues can be long — expect 20–60 minutes at busy times. Have your passport, boarding pass, and (if you filled it out) TDAC QR code ready. The officer will stamp you in for 60 days.
4
After immigration — baggage claim and customs
Collect your luggage, then walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no restricted items. You're now legally in Thailand.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free entry is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Thailand and re-enter (visa run) or apply for a proper visa before travel, such as a 60-day tourist visa or a 90-day non-immigrant visa.
Overstay costs 500 THB per day (about 100 DKK), capped at 20,000 THB. You'll pay at immigration when you leave. Overstaying more than 90 days can get you banned from re-entering for 1 year. Don't risk it.
Not required for Danish passport holders under the visa-free scheme. Immigration rarely asks, but it's smart to have a credit card or cash (at least 20,000 THB equivalent) just in case.
No. Visa-free entry is for tourism, short business meetings, or transit only. You cannot work, including remote work for a foreign company, without the correct work permit and visa. Doing so is illegal and can get you fined, deported, and banned.
You have two options: 1) Leave Thailand and re-enter (visa run) to get another 60 days — but immigration may question frequent entries. 2) Apply for a 60-day tourist visa or a 90-day non-immigrant visa at a Thai embassy before you travel. These require more paperwork but allow longer stays.
No, it's optional. But completing it online before you fly (free at tdac.immigration.go.th) gives you a QR code that can speed you through a separate lane at immigration. If you don't fill it out, you'll just use the regular queue.
Major airports like Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Phuket (HKT) operate 24/7. Immigration counters are staffed around the clock. Expect shorter queues late at night, but still allow 30 minutes for processing.
