Danish passport holders can get a Visa on Arrival (VoA) when entering Indonesia in 2026. It costs 500,000 IDR (about €30) and is valid for 30 days. You can extend it once for another 30 days at any immigration office.

Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at major Indonesian airports and seaports. Pay the fee in USD or IDR cash — $35 USD for 30 days. Have your return ticket and hotel booking ready at the counter.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. Airlines check this strictly at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Return ticket
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward flight ticket ready. Airlines also check this before issuing your boarding pass.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking
Immigration may ask for your hotel reservation or address of stay. Have a printed or digital copy of your booking confirmation ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient funds
Carry at least $1,000 USD in cash or show a bank statement. Immigration officers rarely ask, but it helps if questioned about your ability to support yourself during the stay.Recommended
Cash is king for VoA
Always carry 500,000 IDR in cash. Card machines at immigration counters can be unreliable, and you don't want to be stuck in the queue searching for an ATM. Change money before you arrive or use the ATMs after immigration.
Extension is possible but plan ahead
You can extend your VoA once for 30 days, but you must apply at an immigration office before the first 30 days expire. The process takes a few days and costs about 500,000 IDR. Don't wait until the last day.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'VoA' counters. These are separate from the regular immigration lanes. At major airports (Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya), there are dedicated desks.
2
Pay the fee and get the sticker
Hand over your passport and 500,000 IDR. The officer will process payment, then stick the VoA sticker into your passport. This takes 2–3 minutes.
3
Proceed to passport control
With the sticker in your passport, join the regular immigration queue. Present your passport and boarding pass. You may be asked for your return ticket or hotel booking — have them ready.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, collect your bags and walk through customs. No additional forms needed unless you're carrying restricted goods.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, you can extend it once for another 30 days. The extension costs about 500,000 IDR and must be done at an immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi) before your first 30 days expire. You'll need to fill out a form, provide a passport photo, and show proof of funds. The process takes 3–5 working days.
Overstaying costs 1,000,000 IDR per day (about €60). You pay at the airport immigration office before departure. Overstays over 60 days can lead to deportation and a ban. Don't risk it — set a reminder.
Technically no — immigration requires proof of onward travel. In practice, some travellers have been let through after showing a flexible booking or a refundable ticket. But it's risky: you could be denied boarding by your airline. Always have a ticket out.
No. It's available at major international airports: Bali (Ngurah Rai), Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta), Surabaya (Juanda), Medan (Kualanamu), Yogyakarta (New Yogyakarta International), and a few others. If you're flying into a smaller airport, check beforehand — you may need to get a visa in advance.
Yes, at larger airports like Bali and Jakarta. But card machines sometimes go down. Always carry 500,000 IDR in cash to be safe. ATMs are available after immigration if you need to withdraw.
No mandatory vaccinations for entry. However, hepatitis A, typhoid, and tetanus are recommended. Yellow fever vaccine is required only if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever (not Denmark).
No. The VoA is strictly for tourism, transit, business meetings, or government visits. Any paid work requires a work permit and a different visa. Working on a VoA is illegal and can get you deported.
