What happens at the border

1
Apply for the ETA online
Go to the Australian Department of Home Affairs website or use the official ETA app. Fill in your passport details, travel dates, and answer a few questions. Pay the fee (around AUD 20). Approval is usually instant, but can take up to 24 hours.
2
Check your passport validity
Make sure your Danish passport has at least 6 months left from the day you arrive in Australia. If it doesn't, renew it before you apply for the ETA.
3
Book your flights and accommodation
Book a return or onward ticket. Also book your first night's accommodation. Keep confirmations handy — digital copies on your phone are fine.
4
Arrive at the airport
At check-in, the airline will verify your ETA is linked to your passport. They may also ask to see your return ticket. Board your flight.
5
Go through Australian immigration
At the airport in Australia, use the SmartGate kiosk if available (Danish e-passports are eligible). Scan your passport, answer the questions, and get your entry stamp. If asked, show your return ticket and accommodation booking.
