Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply for Myanmar eVisa
Apply online at the official Myanmar eVisa portal before travel. Processing takes 3–5 working days, and you must print the approval letter to present at immigration. The eVisa is valid for a single entry and a stay of up to 28 days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Myanmar. Immigration officers at Yangon and Mandalay airports check this strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
You need a confirmed return or onward flight ticket out of Myanmar. Airlines at check-in and immigration officers routinely ask for this.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask for your accommodation address on arrival.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or bank statement
Carry at least $300 USD equivalent in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely checks this, but it helps if asked.Recommended
eVisa only valid at airports
Your eVisa is only valid for entry at Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw international airports. You cannot use it to enter Myanmar by land from Thailand, China, or India.
Travel insurance strongly recommended
While not officially required for entry, travel insurance is highly recommended. Medical care in Myanmar can be expensive, and evacuation costs are very high if you need serious treatment.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Myanmar eVisa website (evisa.moip.gov.mm). Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel dates. Upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee with a credit or debit card. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive and print eVisa
Once approved, you'll get an email with your eVisa approval letter. Print a copy and also save a PDF on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Prepare documents for travel
Before you leave, gather: passport (6+ months validity), printed eVisa, return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance if you have it. Keep them in your carry-on.
4
Arrive at Myanmar immigration
At Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw airport, go to the 'eVisa' lane. Hand over your passport, eVisa approval, and boarding pass. The officer will stamp you in. Expect a quick check of your return ticket and hotel booking.
