Algerian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Malawi. You apply online, and it covers tourism or business visits. As of 2026, there is no visa on arrival for Algerian nationals — you must get the eVisa before you fly.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Malawi eVisa at the official immigration portal. Processing takes 3–5 working days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Kamuzu International Airport will stamp you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Algerian passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Malawi does not enforce a 6-month validity rule — your passport just needs to be valid for the duration of your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Lilongwe and Blantyre airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before letting you through.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Malawi. Immigration may ask where you're staying — having a booking confirmation avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card showing access to at least $300 USD for your stay. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you'll need to demonstrate you're not traveling without means.Recommended
No visa on arrival for Algerian passport holders
You cannot get a visa at the airport. The eVisa must be approved before you fly. Airlines may also deny boarding without proof of an approved eVisa.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Malawi, not from when you apply for the eVisa. If it expires sooner, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Malawi eVisa website (evisa.gov.mw) and fill out the application. You'll need to upload a passport photo, a copy of your passport bio page, and your travel itinerary. Pay the fee online with a credit or debit card. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get an email with the eVisa document. Print it out and keep a digital copy on your phone. You'll need to show it at the immigration counter when you land.
3
Arrive at Lilongwe or Blantyre airport
Most international flights arrive at Kamuzu International Airport (Lilongwe) or Chileka International Airport (Blantyre). Go to the immigration desk, present your passport, eVisa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in — usually for up to 30 days.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually no further checks unless you're carrying restricted items. Then you're free to go.
