Estonian passport holders need a visa to visit Canada in 2026. You must apply for a visitor visa (TRV) before you travel — there is no visa waiver or eTA option for Estonian citizens. Plan ahead, as processing can take several weeks.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Estonian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Canada. Canada does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but airlines may still enforce this — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Visitor visa application
Apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV)
Estonian passport holders need a visitor visa to enter Canada. Apply online through the IRCC portal — processing takes 2–4 weeks for most applicants. You will need to submit biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at a Visa Application Centre in Tallinn.Apply for visaRequired
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Canada
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary showing you leave Canada before your visa expires.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from your host with their address and contact details. Border officers may ask where you are staying on arrival.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card statement ready. Canada does not publish a fixed minimum amount, but officers expect enough to cover accommodation, food, and transport for your visit.Recommended
Apply early — processing can be slow
Visa processing for Canada can take 2–8 weeks, sometimes longer during peak season (summer). Don't book non-refundable flights until you have the visa in hand.
No eTA for Estonians
Unlike many European countries, Estonia is not eligible for the eTA. You must go through the full visa application process. No shortcuts.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the visitor visa online
Go to the IRCC website (Canada.ca) and create an account. Fill out the application form, upload your documents (passport scan, photo, travel history, proof of funds, etc.), and pay the CAD 100 fee (about €70). Processing takes 2–8 weeks — apply at least 2 months before your trip.
2
Wait for visa decision
IRCC will email you when a decision is made. If approved, the visa is stamped in your passport (you may need to send your passport to a visa office). If refused, you'll get a letter explaining why.
3
Arrive at a Canadian airport
At the border (e.g., Toronto Pearson, Vancouver), go to the visitor queue. Present your passport with the visa, your return ticket, and accommodation details. The officer may ask about your plans — answer honestly. They'll usually stamp your passport for up to 6 months.
