Estonian passport holders need a visa to enter Kenya in 2026. You must apply for an e-Visa online before you travel — there are no visa-on-arrival options. The process is straightforward, but you need to have your documents ready before you apply.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Kenya eVisa (eTA)
Apply online at the official Kenya eTA portal before departure. The eTA is mandatory for all visitors and costs $30 USD. Processing takes up to 3 business days — apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eTARequired

Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Kenya
Your passport must have at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Kenya strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule — airlines check this at check-in.Required

Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at JKIA ask for a return or onward ticket before they stamp you in. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Kenya. Immigration occasionally asks for it, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, credit card, or bank statement
Have at least $500 USD equivalent in cash or a credit card with available balance. Immigration may ask to see proof of sufficient funds for your stay.Recommended
No visa on arrival
Estonian passport holders cannot get a visa at the airport. You must apply and receive approval for an e-Visa before you travel. Airlines will check this before you board.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Kenya, not from when you leave. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the visa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for e-Visa online
Go to the official Kenya e-Visa website (etakenya.go.ke). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the visa fee (around $51 USD for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing usually takes 2–5 business days. You'll receive the approved visa by email — print it or save it on your phone.
2
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, have these ready: your passport (valid 6+ months), printed or digital e-Visa approval, return ticket, and first night accommodation confirmation. Also save a screenshot of your onward ticket on your phone.
3
Arrive at JKIA or other entry point
At Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi) or Moi International Airport (Mombasa), head to immigration after baggage claim. Join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, e-Visa printout, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport — you're usually allowed up to 90 days per visit.
4
Get a local SIM or eSIM
Once through arrivals, you can buy a local SIM from Safaricom or Airtel kiosks. Alternatively, install an Airalo eSIM before you travel — it activates the moment you land, no queue needed.
