Estonian passport holders can get a visa on arrival at most Tanzanian entry points. You don't need to apply in advance — just show up with the right documents and cash. As of 2026, the process is straightforward but requires careful preparation.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Single-entry tourist visa
Get your visa on arrival at Julius Nyerere (DAR), Kilimanjaro (JRO), and Abeid Amani Karume (ZNZ) airports. Pay $50 USD in cash for a single-entry tourist visa — bring exact change. The queue moves slowly, so budget 30–60 minutes after landing.Check visa detailsRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Tanzania. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket out of Tanzania. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a bus/ferry booking to a neighboring country ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers at Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar airports sometimes ask for it, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked safari or tour.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Have at least $200 USD in cash or a recent bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely checks this, but carrying cash is useful for the visa fee and local expenses.Recommended
Cash only — no cards
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in US dollars cash. ATMs at the airport may not dispense USD, and credit cards are not accepted. Bring crisp, undamaged bills from 2013 or later.
Visa is not extendable
The visa on arrival is valid for the duration of your stay (typically up to 90 days) but cannot be extended. If you need more time, you must leave and re-enter, or apply for a different visa type before travel.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport
At Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam), Kilimanjaro Airport, or Zanzibar Airport, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' after baggage claim. There's usually a dedicated counter.
2
Fill out the arrival form
You'll get a small white card on the plane or at the counter. Fill in your details, flight number, and accommodation address. Keep it with your passport.
3
Present documents and pay
Hand over your passport, completed form, and cash (USD). The officer will process the visa sticker and paste it into your passport. This takes 5–10 minutes.
4
Proceed to immigration
After getting the visa, go to the immigration queue. Show your passport with the new visa and the arrival card. You'll be stamped in.
