Egyptian passport holders need a visa to visit India. You must apply online for an e-Visa before you travel — there are no visa-on-arrival options for Egyptian citizens. Plan ahead, as processing takes a few business days.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Egyptian passport holders need an eVisa to enter India. Apply at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 days before departure — fees range from $25 to $80 USD depending on visa type and duration. Approval usually comes within 72 hours, but do not book non-refundable flights until you have the eVisa confirmation in hand.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival in India. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from India
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return flight ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone — a flexible ticket works fine if your plans are not final.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Keep a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host handy. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your trip. Officers do not always check, but it is a standard question if they suspect you are short on cash.Recommended
No visa on arrival for Egyptian passport holders
Despite some online sources, there is no visa-on-arrival facility for Egyptian citizens at Indian airports. You must have an approved e-Visa before you board your flight. Airlines will check this before issuing your boarding pass.
e-Visa validity periods
India offers 30-day, 1-year, and 5-year e-Visas. The 30-day e-Visa allows double entry; the longer ones allow multiple entries. Choose based on your travel plans — the 30-day is cheapest and fine for most tourists.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for e-Visa online
Go to indianvisaonline.gov.in, fill out the application, upload a passport-style photo and your passport scan, and pay the fee. Processing takes 2–4 business days. You'll receive an approval email — print it and save a PDF on your phone.
2
Pack your documents
Before you leave, gather: your passport (valid 6+ months), printed e-Visa approval, return ticket, and first night hotel booking. Keep them in your carry-on, not checked luggage.
3
Arrival at Indian airport
At immigration, join the 'Foreigners' queue. Hand over your passport and e-Visa printout. The officer will scan your passport, stamp you in, and may ask your hotel address or return flight date. Answer clearly. The whole process takes 2–5 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel, then walk through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're in.

No. The e-Visa is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must leave and reapply from outside India. Overstaying can lead to fines or a ban.
Your application will be rejected. Renew your passport first, then apply for the e-Visa. The 6 months are counted from your arrival date in India.
If you stay airside and your connecting flight is within 24 hours, you don't need a visa. But if you need to clear immigration (e.g., to switch terminals or get a hotel), you'll need an e-Visa or a transit visa.
Yes, the e-Visa is valid at all major international airports: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kochi, Goa, and many others. You cannot enter by land or sea with an e-Visa — only by air.
You'll get an email explaining the reason. Common causes: incorrect photo, passport too short validity, or previous overstay. You can reapply after fixing the issue. There's no appeal process.
Yes, immigration officers often ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready. Without it, you may be questioned or denied entry.
