Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay in Romania. Romania does not enforce a 6-month validity rule, but your airline might — check with them before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit
Border officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Romanian immigration. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation
Immigration may ask where you're staying. Carry a hotel confirmation, rental agreement, or a letter from your host in Romania.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers can request evidence of sufficient funds — roughly €50 per day of stay. A bank statement or credit card statement from the last month works.Recommended
No visa-on-arrival — plan ahead
Egyptian passport holders cannot get a visa at the airport or border. You must apply at the Romanian embassy in Cairo at least 3 weeks before your trip. Last-minute travel is not possible.
Schengen visa holders can enter without a separate Romanian visa
If you hold a valid Schengen visa (or a residence permit from a Schengen country), you can enter Romania without a separate Romanian visa for stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This also applies to holders of a valid UK, US, or Canada visa.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: passport, completed visa application form, return ticket, accommodation proof, travel insurance, and bank statements. Make copies of everything.
2
Submit the online application
Go to evisa.mae.ro/en, create an account, fill in the visa application form, and upload scanned copies of your documents. Pay the visa fee online (€80 for adults, €40 for children 6–12).
3
Attend the embassy appointment
After submitting online, book an appointment at the Romanian embassy in Cairo. Bring your printed application, original documents, and copies. You'll be interviewed briefly and provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo).
4
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days. It can be extended to 30 days if more checks are needed. You'll receive a decision by email or SMS.
5
Collect your visa
If approved, collect your passport with the visa sticker from the embassy. Check that all details (name, dates, validity) are correct before leaving.
6
Arrive in Romania
At the airport in Bucharest (OTP) or any other entry point, present your passport with the visa, return ticket, and accommodation proof. The border officer may ask about your plans — answer clearly and confidently.
