Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Uzbekistan eVisa at e-visa.gov.uz at least 3 working days before departure. The eVisa is single entry, valid for 30 days from the issue date. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure date from Uzbekistan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Tashkent International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a notarized invitation letter from your host in Uzbekistan. Officers may ask for it during secondary inspection, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card showing access to at least $100 per day of your stay. This is rarely checked but can be requested if the officer suspects you are working illegally.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Uzbekistan. Airlines check this at check-in. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding — no exceptions.
eVisa is the only option for tourism
Egypt passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival. The eVisa is quick and cheap ($20–$35). Apply at e-visa.gov.uz at least 3 business days before travel. Print the approval and carry it with your passport.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended
Healthcare in Uzbekistan is limited, especially outside Tashkent. Private clinics are expensive. A medical evacuation can cost thousands. Get travel insurance with medical evacuation coverage before you go.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to e-visa.gov.uz, fill in details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee. Processing takes 2–3 business days. Receive visa by email — print and keep with passport.
2
Check in for your flight
At the airport, the airline checks passport validity (6+ months beyond departure) and eVisa. Have both ready. They may also ask for your return ticket.
3
Arrive at Tashkent International Airport (or other entry point)
After landing, follow signs to immigration. Join the foreign passport queue. Have passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket ready. Officer scans passport, stamps it, and waves you through. Expect 10–20 minutes in line.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim. Customs is usually green channel (nothing to declare). If you have over $10,000 USD in cash or goods over $2,000 USD, use the red channel.

Frequently asked questions

No. Egypt passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival. You must apply for an eVisa before travel. The only exception is if you hold a valid US, UK, or Schengen visa — then you may transit without a visa for up to 5 days under certain conditions, but you still need a visa to enter the country.
Standard processing is 2–3 business days. Apply at least a week before your trip to be safe. The visa is valid for 90 days from issue, so you can apply up to 3 months in advance.
Overstaying costs about $10 USD per day, up to a maximum of $200 USD. Pay the fine at the airport when you leave. To avoid this, apply for a stay extension at a migration office in Tashkent, Samarkand, or Bukhara — but it's not guaranteed and takes time.
No. Uzbekistan abolished tourist registration in 2022. Hotels handle it automatically. If staying with friends or family, your host should register you within 3 days — but this is rarely checked.
Yes, but it's not straightforward. Apply for a one-time extension of up to 30 days at a migration office. Fee is about $20 USD. Need a valid reason (e.g., medical treatment, family visit). Tashkent office is most reliable. Processing takes a few days.
Rejections are rare but happen. Common reasons: insufficient funds (30% of rejections), no return ticket (25%), or incomplete application (20%). If rejected, reapply after fixing the issue. No appeal process. Consider applying at an Uzbek embassy instead.
No mandatory vaccines for entry. CDC recommends Hepatitis A and routine vaccines (MMR, DTP, polio). Typhoid recommended if eating street food. Rabies vaccine worth considering in rural areas. Malaria risk is low — no prophylaxis needed.
