Spanish passport holders need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to enter Israel for tourism or short stays. It's a quick online application, not a traditional visa — you'll get approval in minutes to a few hours, and it's valid for two years or until your passport expires.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the ETA online
Go to https://interior.gov.il/en/eta and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, and a way to pay the 25 ILS fee. Most applicants get approval within minutes, but apply at least 72 hours before departure to be safe.
2
Receive your ETA approval
You'll get an email with your ETA approval. Save it on your phone and also print a copy — some airlines want to see it at check-in. The ETA is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first, and allows multiple entries.
3
Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport (TLV)
After landing, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'Arrivals'. Have your passport and ETA approval ready. You'll go through passport control — the officer will scan your passport, may ask about your trip, and stamp your entry. The process is usually quick, but queues can be long during peak times.
4
Collect your bags and exit
After passport control, collect your luggage and walk through customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. Then you're free to enter Israel.

Frequently asked questions

No, not a traditional visa. You need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization), which is a quick online application. It costs 25 ILS (~$7 USD) and is usually approved within minutes to a few hours. Apply at https://interior.gov.il/en/eta at least 72 hours before your flight.
The ETA is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires, whichever is first, and allows multiple entries. Each stay is typically limited to 90 days, but the exact duration is determined at border control — check your entry stamp or ask the officer.
No, the ETA is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to leave Israel and re-enter, but that's not guaranteed to reset your allowed days. Better to plan your trip within the permitted period.
You'll likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at Ben Gurion Airport. There's no on-arrival ETA facility. Always apply online before you travel.
No. A visa is a formal entry permit, often requiring an embassy visit and longer processing. The ETA is an electronic travel authorization — you apply online, pay a small fee, and get approval quickly. It's simpler and faster.
The ETA is linked to your passport number. If you get a new passport, you'll need to apply for a new ETA. The old one won't be valid with the new passport.
No. The ETA is for tourism, business meetings, or visiting family. It does not permit employment. If you plan to work, you need a proper work visa from an Israeli embassy or consulate.
